News Tony and Oscar Nominee Linney to Host PBS' "Masterpiece Classic" Season Stage and screen star Laura Linney, most recently on Broadway in the revival of Les Liaisons Dangereuses, has landed a new gig: TV host.

Linney, according to Variety, will host PBS' "Masterpiece Classic" 2009 season. Linney succeeds actress Gillian Anderson as host of the series. The 2009 season will kick off Jan. 4, 2009, with "Tess of the d'Urbervilles." The new season will also include "Wuthering Heights" and "The Incomplete Charles Dickens."

"Masterpiece Classic" is one of three components of the "Masterpiece Theater" franchise: "Masterpiece Contemporary" and "Masterpiece Mystery!" are the others.

Laura Linney received Tony nominations for her performances in Sight Unseen and The Crucible. She has also appeared on Broadway in Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Uncle Vanya, Honour, Holiday, Hedda Gabler, The Seagull and Six Degrees of Separation. Linney was Academy Award-nominated for her work in "The Savages," "Kinsey" and "You Can Count On Me."
