Atlantic Theater Company has announced casting for the world premiere of The Band’s Visit, based on the award-winning film of the same name. The new musical features a book by Drama Desk Award nominee Itamar Moses and music and lyrics by Tony Award nominee David Yazbek.

The cast will feature Tony nominees John Cariani (Something Rotten!) and Tony Shalhoub (Monk), along with George Abud (The Visit), Bill Army (Act One), Katrina Lenk (Broadway’s Once), Erik Liberman (LoveMusik), Andrew Polk (House of Cards), Rachel Prather (Once National Tour), Jonathan Raviv (The Ragged Claws), Sharone Sayegh (Mamma Mia!), Kristen Sieh (Men on Boats) and Alok Tewari (Awake and Sing!).

The Band’s Visit will begin previews November 11, officially open December 8 and play a limited engagement through December 18 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company’s Linda Gross Theater.

Based on Eran Kolirin’s acclaimed screenplay, the new musical follows the story of an Egyptian police band that arrives in Israel to play a concert. When a mix-up at the border leaves them stranded with no bus or hotel in sight, these unlikely travelers must seek the help of the locals. “Under the spell of the desert sky, their lives become intertwined in the most unexpected ways,“ state Atlantic Theater production notes.

The Band’s Visit will feature scenic design by Scott Pask, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Tyler Micoleau, sound design by Clive Goodwin, music direction by Andrea Grody and casting by Tara Rubin Casting.
