Mira Nair, who directed the acclaimed 2001 film version, returns to helm the stage musical. The show features a book by screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan and lyrics by Tony nominee Susan Birkenhead (Jelly's Last Jam). Andy Einhorn is music director, and Sarna Lapine is associate director.
As previously reported, the production had a recent workshop in New York City. Hypokrit Theatre Company tweeted a picture of the reading cast at New York City's uptown rehearsal studio Ballet Hispanico Sept. 17, 2015, with the hashtag #broadwaybound.
Producers Margo Lion, Stephen Hendel and Colin Callender are also attached to the project.
