Langella, according to the Hollywood Reporter, has replaced the originally announced Hugh Laurie, who bowed out because of the success of his new TV series "House." Although filming for the Bryan Singer film began March 21 in Australia, none of Laurie's scenes had been filmed. Langella's White is the Daily Planet editor, the boss of journalist Clark Kent, aka Superman. Editor White's son, Richard, is Lois Lane's love interest. Richard will be played by James Marsden.

"Superman Returns" also features Brandon Routh in the title role with Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane, Eva Marie Saint as Martha Kent and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor.

Frank Langella made his Broadway debut in Seascape and has also appeared on Broadway in Passion, Amadeus, The Father, Hurlyburly, Present Laughter and Design for Living. Most recently on Broadway in Match, Langella is the recipient of two Tony Awards, for Fortune's Fool and Seascape. Also a star of feature film, his movie credits boast "Dracula," "Lolita," "The Ninth Gate," "Small Soldiers," "Dave," "Diary of a Mad Housewife" and "The Twelve Chairs."
