News Tony Winners Monk, Naughton, Rivera, Ziemba and More Pay Tribute to John Kander at May 15 Benefit Encompass New Opera Theatre will pay tribute to the work of Tony Award winner John Kander at the company's benefit gala May 15 at the National Arts Club.

A host of Broadway performers will take part in the musical tribute, including Jason Danieley, Peter Howard, Marin Mazzie, Debra Monk, James Naughton, Chita Rivera, Richard Thomas and Karen Ziemba. Hal Prince will offer introductory remarks, and the Honorary Chair for the evening is Sheldon Harnick. Show time is 6 PM. With the late Fred Ebb, John Kander wrote the scores for Flora, the Red Menace; Cabaret; The Happy Time; Zorba; 70, Girls, 70; Chicago; The Act; Woman of the Year; The Rink; And the World Goes 'Round; Kiss of the Spider Woman and Steel Pier.

Under artistic director Nancy Rhodes, Encompass New Opera Theatre is dedicated to "creating, developing and producing imaginative productions of new music theatre and contemporary opera." They will next offer A Gertrude Stein Musical Trilogy June 15-18 in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Symphony Space.
