News Tony-Winning Book of Mormon Offers Special Actors Fund Performance Sept. 13 The Actors Fund Special Benefit Performance of The Book of Mormon, winner of nine Tony Awards including Best Musical, is presented Sept. 13 at 2 PM.

All proceeds from the performance, which is an addition to the show's regular schedule, go to The Actors Fund. The company of the hit musical is donating its time and talent to raise funds for the entertainment charity.

The Book of Mormon plays the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, 230 W. 49th Street.

"South Park" creators-writers Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Tony-winning Avenue Q songwriter Robert Lopez collaborated on the script and score to The Book of Mormon, which earned Tony Awards for Best Book, Best Score and Best Musical. The big-hearted, irreverent and profane musical traces the journey of two mismatched missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who take the trip of a lifetime.

Co-directed by Parker and Casey Nicholaw, The Book of Mormon opened to critical acclaim March 24, 2011, at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. Both earned Tony Awards for their work.

The Book of Mormon also picked up Tony Awards for Best Performance by a Featured Actress (Nikki M. James), Best Orchestrations (Larry Hochman and Stephen Oremus), Best Scenic Design (Scott Pask), Best Sound Design (Brian Ronan) and Best Lighting Design (Brian MacDevitt). Special Performances, according to the Fund, are "among the most thrilling theatrical experiences and the hottest tickets in town. Broadway companies generously give their time and talent by adding these special shows to their already rigorous schedules, and perform for audiences full of their peers from the entertainment community."
