News Top Three Finalists Named for "American Idol XIII" And then there were three.

The top three finalists for "American Idol XIII" were named on the May 8 broadcast of the hit singing competition. Alex Preston, Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene will compete for the top prize following the elimination of Jessica Meuse, 23, from Slapout, AL, who received the least number of votes.

On the May 14 broadcast of "Idol," the 500th episode of the series, the three remaining finalists will return to their hometowns and find out what songs the judges and mentor Randy Jackson have chosen for them to perform. Each contestant's hometown fans will also select their favorite song that the finalist performed this season as the third and final song to be preformed in the "Judges' Choice," "Randy’s Choice" and "Hometown's Choice”-themed performance show.

The one-hour live results show will be broadcast May 15 at 9 PM ET. "American Idol" Season 10 winner Scotty McCreery will return to perform his new song “Feelin’ It,” off of his album “See You Tonight.”

And, on May 20 at 8 PM ET the two finalists will compete at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE. The season finale will air May 21 at 8 PM ET on Fox.

Former "American Idol" contestants who have taken to Broadway after their stint on "Idol" include Fantasia Barrino (The Color Purple, After Midnight), Taylor Hicks (Grease), Clay Aiken (Spamalot), Constantine Maroulis (Jekyll and Hyde, Rock of Ages), Diana DeGarmo (Hairspray, Hair), Frenchie Davis (Rent) and Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) as well as former "Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (Chicago), among others.
