Playbill On-Line has learned that a rescue is underway for two men "trapped on a scaffold on a high floor" at 1633 Broadway in the theatre district. NYPD and NYFD rescue crews are reported on the scene as of 5:15 PM April 13.
While the Times Square Business Improvement District (TS-BID) and the NYPD said a "closure of Broadway between 49th and 52nd Street due to an emergency rescue operation" was in effect, another source indicated that the closure only affects Broadway between 50th and 51st.
Unconfirmed reports had the two men working on the north facade of 1633 Broadway when the scaffolding accident occurred. There was no information available on the condition of the workers.
Primary safety concerns for the workers and passersby notwithstanding, extensive traffic delays are also expected.
