News   Trafton, Bateman and West Will Join The Fantasticks Off-Broadway
Off-Broadway's long-running musical The Fantasticks, which currently plays the Jerry Orbach Theater, will welcome three new cast members in the coming weeks.

Current company members Kimberly Whalen, Steve Routman and Scott Willis are departing the romantic musical authored by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.

The trio will be replaced by Juliette Trafton (Phantom of the Opera) as Luisa, Bill Bateman (Gypsy) as Bellomy and Charles West (The Scarlet Pimpernel) as the standby for El Gallo, Bellomy and Hucklebee. Bateman and West begin performances June 21, while Trafton will join the cast June 28.

Returning to The Fantasticks in the role of Henry July 5 will be MacIntyre Dixon, who assumes the role after Fantasticks creator Tom Jones joined the cast to celebrate the musical's 50th anniversary.

The Fantasticks also features Edward Watts, Erik Altemus, Tom Flagg, Gene Jones, Matt Leisy, Michael Nostrand and Evy Ortiz.

The Fantasticks has choreography by Janet Watson with musical direction by Robert Felstein. The Fantasticks resumed performances Off-Broadway at the Snapple Theater Center's Jerry Orbach Theater June 16, 2008. The musical began a winter hiatus Feb. 24, 2008, following 27 previews and 628 regular performances at the Orbach Theater. The musical originally opened at the Sullivan Street Playhouse in May 1960 and closed Jan. 13, 2002.

Harvey Schmidt wrote the music and Jones penned the book and lyrics. Word Baker directed the original Off-Broadway company.
