It’s the world premiere of David Almond’s adaptation of his award-winning children’s story, about a boy who finds someone strange living in the garage of the house his family have just moved into. The book was published in 1998 and won the Carnegie medal and the Whitbread Children’s Book of the Year. Nunn, whose last project was Ibsen’s The Lady From the Sea at the Almeida, teams up with his Les Miserables designer John Napier, Howard Harrison supplies the lighting, with Fergus O’Hare on sound and Shaun Davey composing. The production is sponsored by Swiss bank UBS.

David Threlfall leads the cast as Skellig. Threlfall’s name was made when he starred in Nunn’s legendary production of Dickens’s Nicholas Nickleby in the director’s RSC days. Also in the cast are Ashley Artus, Cathryn Bradshaw, Antony Byrne, Sarah Cattle, Noma Dumezwemi, Akiya Henry, William Osborne and Mo Zainal.

The show will run until Jan. 31. Tickets range from £10 to £20, with special prices for anyone over 60 or under 27. For further information call (0)20 7928 6363, or visit www.youngvic.org.
