Once again, the Triad Theatre presents Christine Toy Johnson and Ann Harada in their comic tribute, Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall, a recreation of the famed concert from 1962. In the tribute, Johnson and Harada, both Asian, appear as understudies to Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews who are forced to go on so that the historic Carnegie Hall show takes place.

Johnson and Harada's show premiered at the end of September and the response was strong enough that it is coming back for three performances. Carol Burnett even dropped by to visit the cast during a rehearsal and she offered her support and posed for photos with Johnson and Harada.

Julie and Carol is a benefit tribute, with proceeds going to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

Before Julie and Carol, Johnson and Harada were seen in the Alan Muraoka-directed version of Falsettoland, which was produced last year by the National Asian American Theatre Company at the Dimson Theatre in NYC.

"We pretty much recreate their show song for song," Harada told Playbill On Line. "We use their material, but we've dropped a few things -- like the numbers with the Ernest (Ernie) Flatt Dancers -- because we just couldn't do them." Harada said that she and Johnson have added a few things to the program, such as a bit that Carol Burnett did on "The Ed Sullivan Show" in 1959. Originally broadcast by CBS, "Julie and Carol at Carnegie Hall" was a real life highlight in both stars' careers. The additional November dates also feature Bruce Alan Johnson, as well as musical direction by John O'Neill. It will be performed at The Triad, 158 West 72 Street, NYC. Cover charge is $15, with a $10 food/drink minimum. For reservations call (212) 362 2590.
