News Tricycle Season to Include Spice Musical By Kat & the Kings Creators The Tricycle Theatre’s forthcoming autumn and winter season will feature the return to the North London venue of Fabulation by Brooklyn playwright Lynn Nottage, Shared Experience’s production of Orestes and the European premiere of the South African musical Spice Drum Beat – Ghoema.

Indhu Rubasingham’s production of Fabulation was seen at the Tricycle in March this year as part of the theatre's African-American Season. Previews start Sept. 14 with an opening night on Sept. 18.

Jenny Jules will reprise her role as publicist Undine, whose life disintegrates when her Latin-lover husband Hervé walks out, taking her money and leaving her broke and pregnant.

The play received its world premiere last year at New York’s Peter Jay Sharp Theatre. After the run at the Tricycle finishes on Oct. 21, the cast will perform a series of plays by various writers, including Nottage, marking the Darfur massacres. Staged under the title How Long Is Never?, the short plays, mostly commissioned from the Bloomberg Tricycle Writers Group, will be performed from Oct. 24–28.

After Shared Experience’s production of Orestes (Nov. 7–Dec. 2) the creators of the West End and Broadway show Kat & the Kings present the latest musical by South African writer/director/songwriter David Kramer. Spice Drum Beat – Ghoema officially opens Dec. 11 following previews that begin Dec. 6.

The show, with musical direction by Kramer’s long-time collaborator Taliep Petersen, delves into Cape Town’s slave history, drawing on old and recent Cape musical heritage. The season finishes with The War Next Door (Feb. 1, 2007 – March 3, 2006), a new verse play by Tamsin Oglesby (Us and Them) helmed by Tricycle Artistic Director Nicolas Kent.
