News TV’s Lauria and Scolari to Head Cast of George Street’s Inspecting Carol Complete casting has been announced for the George Street Playhouse’s upcoming production of Inspecting Carol.

Directed by David Saint, the Daniel Sullivan play will begin performances at the New Jersey theatre Nov. 29 with an official opening set for Dec. 2. The limited engagement will run through Dec. 31.

Dan Lauria — of TV’s “The Wonder Years” — and Peter Scolari — of TV’s “Newhart” — will head a cast that also includes Peggy Cosgrave, Catherine Cox, Randy Donaldson, MacIntyre Dixon, Wally Dunn, Michael Mastro, Mary Catherine Wright, John Keller, Aaron Wilton and Christopher J. Stewart. Throughout the show’s run several New Jersey celebrities will step in to the pivotal role of Betty Andrews; former New Jersey governor Christine Todd Whitman will be the first to play Andrews.

Inspecting Carol, according to production notes, is a “farcical behind the-scenes look at a struggling theatre company's attempt to mount its annual production of A Christmas Carol. Complicating the effort are prima donna performers, cast love affairs, a surprise visit from a National Endowment of the Arts funding inspector, and an aspiring actor who shows up to audition and is mistaken for the inspector.”

The creative team for the production comprises R. Michael Miller (sets), Brenda King (costumes) and Christopher J. Bailey (lights and sound).

The George Street Playhouse is located in New Brunswick, NJ at 9 Livingston Avenue. Call (732) 246-7717 for tickets or visit www.GSPonline.org.
