News Two-DVD "Sound of Music" Set to Arrive in Stores in November
A two-DVD set celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Academy Award winning film "The Sound of Music" will arrive in stores in November.

On Nov. 15 Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment LLC will release the 40th anniversary edition DVD, which boasts several hours of documentary material created specially for this milestone by Michael Kantor (of PBS' "Broadway: The American Musical" fame). Julie Andrews, who starred as Maria in the award-winning film, is the host of the two-DVD package.

The first disc offers two ways to view the film. Viewers can choose to watch the fully restored original theatrical feature, or they may select a new interactive version with a sing-along function and join the stars as they sing the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein score.

The special features of each DVD follow:
Disc One:
Special anniversary introduction by Julie Andrews
Commentary by Robert Wise (from the original laserdisc)
Commentary by Andrews and co-star Christopher Plummer
Sing-along subtitles in English, French and Spanish

Disc Two:
"My Favorite Things: Julie Andrews Remembers": Julie Andrews recalls the von Trapp family; she is joined by Christopher Plummer, Johannes von Trapp, Charmian Carr and film director Robert Wise
"Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer: A Reminiscence": The two stars sit down for an intimate fireside chat
"On Location with The Sound of Music": Charmian Carr takes viewers on a trip to Salzburg, Austria, one of the locales made famous in the film
"From Liesl to Gretl: A 40th Anniversary Reunion": All seven of the actors who played the von Trapp children reunite in this touching "family reunion"
"When You Know the Notes to Sing": Highlights from Sing-a-Long-Sound of Music at the Hollywood Bowl

The Sound of Music originally opened at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in Nov. 1959. Mary Martin headed a cast that also included Theodore Bikel and Patricia Neway. Julie Andrews starred in the award-winning film, and the most recent Broadway revival featured Rebecca Luker as the beloved Maria von Trapp. The classic Rodgers and Hammerstein score boasts such tunes as "Do Re Mi," "My Favorite Things," "The Sound of Music" and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." The DVDs are presented in widescreen format and feature English 5.0 Surround. The list price in the U.S. is $26.98.
