Henry V will begin performances at Guildford's Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Nov. 9, and will then visit Brighton, Milton Keynes and Festival Temporada Alta in Girona, Spain. The Winter's Tale will be added at Cheltenham's Everyman Theatre, beginning performances Jan. 19, 2012, with press performances for both plays Jan. 27, before continuing to tour together. According to press materials, Propeller's new production of Henry V tells the tale of the greatest British warrior in English folklore. In a time when nationalism is at its most dangerous and exciting and increasing numbers of British servicemen and women are seeing active service, Propeller brings its own unique take on one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, following a journey that travels from the corridors of Westminster to the fields of France.
The Winter's Tale, which is described as a tragic fairytale, tells the mysterious and extraordinary story of a man consumed by an inexplicable jealousy that destroys his family, his kingdom and himself. Wracked with guilt, Leontes sets off a chain reaction of events that leads to a miraculous climax and the chance of redemption. This is a re-visiting of Propeller's 2005 production.
The productions are designed by Michael Pavelka, with lighting by Ben Ormerod. For further details of the tour, visit www.propeller.org.uk.
