News Understudies and Standbys from Wicked, Urinetown, Hairspray, Aida and Oz Sing Dec. 7 Mel Miller, producer the shoestring-budget concerts of vintage musicals presented as Musicals Tonight!, gathers Broadway standbys and understudies for a piano-and voice concert called Broadway Tonight!, Dec. 7 in Manhattan.

Casting director Stephen DeAngelis MC's the 7:30 PM evening in which the somewhat anonymous performers sing songs from their current jobs as well as songs from their "book" — their audition, recital or cocktail party repertoire, Miller said.

Those appearing include Laura Bell Bundy (standby for Glinda in Wicked), who created role of Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray; Dwayne Clark (understudy for Bobby Strong in Urinetown), a vet of the Australian production of Smokey Joe's Cafe; Shannon Durig (standby for Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray, her Broadway debut); Stephanie Kurtzuba (understudy for Judy Garland in The Boy From Oz), who played in Off-Broadway's Bat Boy and has appeared at Paper Mill: The State Theatre of New Jersey; and Lori Ann Strunk (understudy for Amneris in Aida), who played Sandy in national and European tours of Grease.

Eugene Gwodz is musical director, on piano, for the performance, at the Mainstage of the East 14th Street YMHA, 344 E. 14th Street. Admission is $19.
