One never-before-seen performance was recorded in Munich in October 1996, at a time when Kleiber could rarely be coaxed to the podium. He would give just seven more concerts, including his last five appearances in 1999. The DVD features the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra and includes Brahms's Fourth Symphony, Mozart's 33rd Symphony, and Beethoven's Coriolan Overture.
Seen on DVD for the first time are concerts of Brahms and Mozart with the Vienna Philharmonic and Beethoven with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam, as well as the Vienna Philharmonic's 1992 New Year's Eve Concert.
The recordings will be released in Europe in November and in the United State in early 2005.
