News Veteran Stage Manager Jacobs Pens To the Contrary Veteran Broadway stage manager Craig Jacobs — who counts among his credits the original productions of Chicago, The Rink, They're Playing Our Song as well as the Tyne Daly and the current Patti LuPone Gypsy — now adds the title of playwright to his resume.

Jacobs' new play, To the Contrary, will be presented as part of the 8th Annual Midtown International Theatre Festival July 17–Aug. 2 at the Workshop Theatre.

According to press notes, To the Contrary is "the story of Bernice 'Bernie' Phillips, a savvy, successful New York City photographer who, in a moment completely against character, falls in love with Michael, one of her most inexplicably attractive subjects. With him, and her best friend, the aging-and ageless-soap-opera star Leslie at her side, Bernice explores the ins, outs, ups, and ultimate downs, of life, love, and sex as the writer's eye targets imbuing the play with elements completely 'contrary' to the norm."

Jonathan Tessero produces with a cast that includes Jim Weitzer (The Phantom of the Opera, Little Women), Laura Jordan (Oedipus for Kids, In My Life), Diane J. Findlay (Encores! Follies), Todd Detweiler and James Mills. James Valletti directs.

Tickets are $18 and can be purchased through www.smarttix.com.

Five dollars from each ticket will go to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For more information visit www.midtownfestival.org.
