Classic Arts News Vienna Philharmonic to Make Houston Debut in 2006 Houston's Society for the Performing Arts will present a concert by the Vienna Philharmonic next season, the presenter announced this week. The concert on March 12, 2006, will mark the famous orchestra's first appearance in Houston.
The S.P.A.'s 2005-06 season will also include a performance by the winner of the Twelfth Van Cliburn Piano Competition, which takes place in June; the Merce Cunningham Dance Company; the Ahn Trio; pianist Marc-Andr_ Hamelin; Ballet Hispanico; the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; and Buglisi/Foreman Dance.

The Ahn Trio, Marc-Andr_ Hamelin, and Buglisi/Foreman will also be making their Houston debuts.

The S.P.A. was founded in 1966 in order to provide programming for Houston's Jones Hall, then newly opened. It now presents touring performers at the Wortham Center as well.
