Colman Domingo's A Boy and His Soul will launch the season Sept. 9-Oct. 18 with an opening night of Sept. 24. The solo work written and performed by Domingo (Passing Strange) "explores the life-experiences of a young African-American man in 1980s Philadelphia, propelled by the beat of classical soul," according to an announcement.

Tony Kelly will direct and Ken Roberson will choreograph. The design team features Rachel Hauck (set), Toni Leslie-James (costume), Marcus Doshi (lighting) and Tom Morse (sound).

Adam Rapp's The Metal Children plays next for the downtown company Feb. 3-March 14, 2010 with a Feb. 21 opening. Rapp (Red Light Winter) pens and directs his latest which "follows the controversy created in a small town when a Young Adult novel about teenage pregnancy is banned, igniting heated emotions over abortion, religious beliefs and censorship." Cast and creative team are to be announced.

The musical The Burnt Part Boys will follow (May-June 2010) in a co-production with Playwrights Horizons at that company's Off-Broadway home. Penned by Mariana Elder (book), Nathan Tysen (lyrics) and Chris Miller (music) and directed by Erica Schmidt, the musical is "set in West Virginia in 1962 [and] follows a group of teenagers whose fathers were killed ten years earlier in a tragic coal mining accident. When they learn that the mine will be reopened, they set out secretly in the hopes of seeing the site, and keeping it closed."

As previously announced, the Vineyard will also continue its Developmental Lab Series — small-scale work-in-progress productions — with The Scottsboro Boys and The Typographer's Dream. And the troupe will embark on a new collaboration with Brooklyn's St. Ann's Warehouse for a "bonus" show (details are to be announced). The Vineyard Theatre is located at 108 East 15th Street.
