Classic Arts News Violinist Sues Seattle Symphony, Claiming Mistreatment by Schwarz A longtime Seattle Symphony violinist has sued the orchestra, claiming that music director Gerard Schwarz discriminated against him because of a disability and caused him "intentional emotional distress," the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports.
Peter Kaman, a member of the orchestra's first violin section, says in the suit that Schwarz "constantly, continuously, and persistently" harassed him and tried to force him from the orchestra because he suffers from an anxiety disorder. According to the suit, Schwarz's actions have worsened Kaman's condition; he seeks punitive and compensatory damages.

In a statement, Schwarz and SSO executive director Paul Meecham said that "the claim is without merit and we shall vigorously defend it."

A year ago, the SSO settled a lawsuit filed by former concertmaster Ilkka Talvi, who claimed he had been wrongfully terminated and attacked Schwarz on his blog.
