When two unhappy newlyweds become weary of their marriage of convenience, they each start a secret and impassioned correspondence. And the love story ensues as director Scott Shattuck presents Augustin Daly’s Love’s Postman (or Love on Crutches) at the Metropolitan Playhouse of New York City, June 7-30, officially June 10.

Postman was originally produced as Love on Crutches in 1884. The play ran three months -- a bona fide hit back then. Playwright Daly (Under the Gaslight) had no qualms about delivering the fairly obvious plot early on, so that we are not engrossed by the story itself, but by the journey through it.

Shattuck (the NYC premiere of Stoppard’s Rough Crossing) directs a cast of Myriam Blanckaert, DeBanne Browne, Kennedy Brown, David L. Carson, Paul Obedzinski, Karen Ryan, Adam Smith, Erica Schmidt, Mimi Stuart, and Michael Surabian. Costumes are by Fritz Masten, sets by Christopher Holvenstot, lighting by John Demous, and sound by John Littig.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor hail, nor snow will prevent Love’s Postman from playing at the Metro, 220 East Fourth Street (between Avenues A & B). Previews June 7-9 for $10. Opens June 10 and runs until June 30 for $15. For you lovelorn strangers, Sundays are Singles Nights @ 5 PM (talk-back follows the show with light refreshments). For reservations, call (212) 995-5302 or visit http://www.metroplayhouse.com.
