Walnut Street Snags Peter Pan, Les Miz, La Mancha, Simon and Miller for 2007-08

In the coming year, the Walnut Street Theatre, America's oldest theatre and the State Theatre of Pennsylvania, will celebrate its 199th season of live entertainment and its 25th season as a not-for-profit producing theatre company.

The Walnut is not only the most popular theatre company in Philadelphia, but also the most-subscribed theatre company in the world — 56,000 subscribers, the troupe reports.

Bernard Havard, producing artistic director, recently announced the 2007-2008 mainstage season.

As previously reported on Playbill.com, the Walnut will be one of only eight regional theatres in the United States granted the opportunity to produce Les Misérables independently of the famed Cameron Mackintosh production that has swept the world.

Here's the 2007-08 Walnut Street season at a glance:

Man of La Mancha (Sept. 4-Oct. 21, 2007), the musical version of a section of Cervantes "Don Quixote," by Dale Wasserman, Joe Darion and Mitch Leigh.

Peter Pan (Nov. 6-Jan. 6, 2008), the Broadway musical of the J.M. Barrie play about the boy who wouldn't grow up, with songs by Carolyn Leigh and Moose Charlap and Jule Styne, Betty Comden and Adolph Green.

The Price (Jan. 15-March 2, 2008), Arthur Miller's tale of distant brothers reuniting over an attic filled with their late father's possessions.

The Odd Couple (March 11-April 27, 2008), Neil Simon's comedy about two divorced men (one sloppy, one neat) living together in a New York City apartment.

Les Misérables (May 13-July 13, 2008), the Alain Boublil-Claude Michel Schonberg musical version of the Victor Hugo tale. Wanut Street Theatre is at 825 Walnut Street, Philadelphia.
