News Walnut Studio to Stage Tuna Christmas, O Captain, Honor and the River, Criminal Minds, Forbidden Broadway The Walnut Street Theatre's Independence Studio on 3 season in 2008-09 will include five productions, including the revue Forbidden Broadway, which pokes fun at shows that have been hits on the Walnut mainstage in Philadelphia.

The 80-seat Independence Studio on 3 season will include:

  • A Tuna Christmas (Nov. 25, 2008-Jan. 4, 2009): Benjamin Lloyd and John Zak, who appeared in last season's Greater Tuna, create multiple characters from the town of Tuna, TX. Joe Sears and Jaston Williams wrote the script.
  • O Captain, My Captain (Jan. 20-Feb. 8, 2009): "A revealing portrait of Abraham Lincoln as seen through the eyes of Walt Whitman, America's firebrand poet. Whitman's admiration for Lincoln was immediate and intense. He saw in the frontier lawyer the promise of the real American Dream. From Whitman's humble row house in Camden to the battlefields of Gettysburg, we bring you tales of two great men with an even greater vision for America."
  • Criminal Minds (Feb. 24-March 15, 2009): Jane Martin's comedy "about breaking into hearts, homes and minds. Bo the burglar breaks into an upper-class condo to find nothing but a dejected woman and an empty apartment. Ata's husband has just left her, leaving her with nothing but a mattress. An unlikely friendship begins as these two women develop an outrageous and surprising plot to take revenge."

  • Anton Dudley's Honor and the River (March 31-April 19, 2009): "Set against the backdrop of a New England river, [it] tells the story of a teenaged boy named Eliot: forced to confront both his fear of water and the ghost of his drowned father. As he prepares for the spring rowing season, Eliot struggles to define who he is. He looks to Honor, his rowing partner, and to his bereaved mother for guidance."
  • Forbidden Broadway (May 5-June 28, 2009): "We salute the American musical with the best of Broadway! Big shows and bigger legends abound in this hilarious, cheeky and endlessly entertaining revue. Some of your favorite Walnut productions are lovingly skewered," including Annie, The Sound of Music, Man of La Mancha and others.
