Classic Arts News Washington National Opera Announces Radio Broadcast Schedule Eight Washington National Opera productions will be broadcast nationally this fall, including a live broadcast of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess on November 12, the company announced.
Porgy and Bess will feature Gordon Hawkins and Indira Mahajan in the title roles, with Jermaine Smith as Sportin' Life. Wayne Marshall is the conductor. The broadcast, at 2 .p.m., will be heard on 142 stations around the United States and on additional stations abroad.

The company will be featured on NPR's weekly World of Opera starting today and through October 15. Productions include Verdi's Il trovatore with Denyce Graces as Azucena (September 3), Britten's Billy Budd with Dwayne Croft and Samuel Ramey (September 10), Giordano's Andrea Chenier with Salvatore Licitra in the title role (September 17), Torroba's zarzuela Luisa Fernanda with Plšcido Domingo (September 25), Puccini's Tosca with Licitra as Cavaradossi (October 1), Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans with Mirella Freni in the title role (October 8), and Saint-SaêŠns' Samson et Dalila with Olga Borodina and Carl Tanner.

World of Opera will also carry a Washington National Opera production of Mozart's Die Zauberfl‹te (The Magic Flute) on New Year's Eve.
