Watch Alan Cumming on The Late Show | Playbill

News Watch Alan Cumming on The Late Show The Tony winner visited Stephen Colbert to talk about his newest book, Broadway and more.

Alan Cumming’s latest book, You’ve Gotta Get Bigger Dreams My Life in Stories and Pictures, hits shelves September 13. In promotion of the title, Cumming appeared on the September 12 episode of CBS’ The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The talk-show host pointed out that many of the photos in Cumming’s new book are of naked people and flipped to a page showcasing a photo backstage at Broadway Bares. Cumming described the annual benefit that supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and revealed that (Broadway Bares or not) he’s very comfortable being naked backstage himself.

Cumming also discussed his recent trip to Lebanon to work with Syrian refugees in an effort to shed light on the refugee crisis. “There’s so much negative rhetoric about refugees… I was really fascinated to go and found out that these people … they all just want to go home,” said Cumming. “My going would draw attention to the fact that these are not people who are scary, they just want to have a peaceful life and go back to where they were.”

Cumming won a Tony Award for his role as the Master of Ceremonies in the 1998 revival of Cabaret, a role he reprised in the 2014 revival. He hosted the Tony Awards alongside Kristin Chenoweth in 2015. The actor is well known for his role on the long-running television series The Good Wife as political operative Eli Gold. He played the role from 2010-16 and earned two Golden Globe nominations, two Screen Actors Guild nominations and three Emmy nominations for his work on the show.
