Video Watch Alice Ripley Belt ‘I’m Alive’ From Next to Normal at Miscast Gala A decade after winning a Tony for the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical, Ripley tackled another driving rock number from the show.

MCC Theater hosted its annual Miscast gala April 1. The event, a tradition of the Off-Broadway company since 2001, invites a “class” of performers to sing songs from roles in which they would not otherwise be cast.

Alice Ripley, who won the Tony Award for creating the role of Diana in the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Next to Normal, performed another song from the Tom Kitt-Brian Yorkey score as part of the evening. Ripley tackled the driving rock number, “I’m Alive,” written for the character of Gabe, Diana’s son, and originated on stage by Aaron Tveit. Watch her performance above.
