Karen Pittman and Namir Smallwood star in the The Lincoln Center Theater production Off-Broadway.

Acclaimed playwright Dominique Morisseau returns Off-Broadway this summer with Pipeline, a new drama that looks at the relationship between inner-city public high school teacher, played by Karen Pittman, and her only son, played by Namir Smallwood. Watch highlights from the Lincoln Center Theater production, now playing in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, in the video above.

Directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz, Pipeline began performances June 15 and officially opens July 10 in the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater.

Tasha Lawrence, Morocco Omari, Jaime Lincoln Smith, and Heather Velazquez complete the cast Off-Broadway.

Here’s how LCT outlines the play: “In Dominique Morisseau’s Pipeline, Nya Joseph is a dedicated, inner-city public high school teacher who is committed to her students' achievement, while she sends her only son, Omari, to a private boarding school. When Omari is involved in a controversial incident which threatens him with expulsion from his school, Nya is forced to reconcile Omari’s rage and her own parental decisions, as she rallies to save her son.“

Morisseau’s plays include Skeleton Crew, which played an acclaimed engagement at the Atlantic Theater Company, as well as Paradise Blue, Detroit ’67, Sunset Baby, Blood at the Root, and Follow Me To Nellie’s.
