News Watch Newsies Dancers Perform at the White House Easter Egg Roll Dancers from the musical Newsies visited Washington, DC, April 6 to entertain at the 137th Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House.

At the invitation of the White House, Disney assembled a cast of Newsies alumni to perform "Seize the Day," "Carrying the Banner" and "Santa Fe." The dancers got to have a private audience with President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

The musical, about the real-life New York newsboys strike of 1898, is preparing to play a two-week engagement at the National Theatre June 9-21. One performer from the tour, Julian DeGuzman, took part in the White House event.

With a Tony-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, and a book by Harvey Fierstein, Newsies played 1,005 performances on Broadway, and is in the midst of a multi-city tour headed for Dallas, San Antonio, Houston, Nashville, Boston, Toronto and other cities.
