Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) is back again as Jesse St. James and is assisting the New Directions with their set for Nationals in New York City. St. James convinces Mr. Schuester (Matthew Morrison) that he must hold auditions for the lead vocalist, and Rachel Berry (Lea Michele), Mercedes Jones (Amber Riley), Santana Lopez (Naya Rivera) and Kurt Hummel (Chris Colfer) are the first to sign up. Will Finn (Corey Monteith) be at the audition or is he too tied up with matters that are more important than a singing solo?

Aside from the solo auditions, the New Directions unite for a group number of "Pure Imagination" from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" in honor of a very special person they recently lost.
