Watch the First Teaser Trailer for Disney's Live-Action Aladdin | Playbill

Film & TV News Watch the First Teaser Trailer for Disney's Live-Action Aladdin The remake will feature Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice's beloved songs, as well as new lyrics from Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The first teaser trailer for Disney's live-action Aladdin offers a wealth of riches far beyond whatever lies in the Cave of Wonders. We're talking lush orchestrations, dramatic establishing shots, and what we can presume is a much more realistic Iago. Take a look above.

The teaser also gives us our first look at Mena Massoud as the title role. Joining him are Will Smith as the Genie, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, as well as Saturday Night Live vet Nasim Pedrad and Tony nominee Billy Magnussen as new characters.

The new film, directed by Guy Ritchie, will land in theatres May 24, 2019.

Like Disney's recent take on Beauty and the Beast, this new Aladdin will feature the animated original's beloved songs, which feature music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Tim Rice and the late Howard Ashman, as well as new tunes (including a song for Jasmine). Two more songwriters have been tapped to contribute additional lyrics this time around: Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the Tony- and Oscar-winning duo behind Dear Evan Hansen and The Greatest Showman.

The stage adaptation of the Disney favorite continues to play Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre.
