The other judges at the event will be Flea Theater founder Jim Simpson, former ART head Robert Woodruff and Time Out NY critic David Cote. An audience favorite award will also be presented. The evening will be hosted by Tom Shillue. The theatre companies competing this year are Ma-Yi, New Georges, Vampire Cowboys, Electric Pear Productions, Resonance Ensemble and Youngblood.
Each theatre company assembled an artistic team consisting of playwright, director and actors. On April 11 each team received the parameters by which to write, cast and rehearse a world-premiere one-act play. The plays are performed ten days later, at the April 21 benefit.
