News West End Live to Celebrate 10th Year With Free Events West End LIVE, an annual free celebration of London theatre, will take place June 21-22 on a mainstage in Trafalgar Square and in a historic 1920s Spiegeltent in Leicester Square. The event's tenth year will be marked June 22 by a showcase cabaret 10 from 10, featuring ten iconic musical numbers from some of the favorite shows of the past decade, including Chicago, Avenue Q, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Blood Brothers, Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music.

Billed as the largest event of its type in the world, over half a million people attended last year.

Among the current shows that will be appearing on June 21 are The Commitments, Once, Wicked, Billy, Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon, The Pajama Game, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia!, The Bodyguard, Thriller Live and Stomp, with appearances from the forthcoming productions of Forbidden Broadway and Porgy and Bess. Making their West End LIVE debut is The Royal Opera House Chorus, led by renowned singer and conductor Plácido Domingo, concluding the day's festivities by performing a selection of favorite opera classics.

Current shows represented on June 22 are Stomp, The Lion King, The Commitments, Matilda The Musical, The Pajama Game, Thriller Live, Billy Elliot and Jersey Boys.

In a press statement, Cllr Robert Davis, deputy leader of Westminster City Council, who created West End LIVE ten years ago, said: “Whether you are a budding Billy Elliot, a jovial Jersey Boy or a waltzing Matilda, Trafalgar Square and Leicester Square are the places to be this summer. 2014 is a very special year, as it marks a decade of West End LIVE – and we are still the only festival in the world that brings together the best of musical theatre and more in one place, for free."

In the 1920s Spiegeltent in Leicester Square, Theatre Emporium will offer the public the chance to look behind the scenes and discover all the elements that bring a theatrical production to the stage including scripts, set and costume designs, wigs and make-up and special effects.
