Written by I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’s Joe DiPietro — with music and additional lyrics by David Bryan — Memphis concerns the story of a white deejay who plays African-American music to his white listeners in the 1940’s, “unknowingly giving birth to the music known as rock-n-roll.” Memphis will play the Massachusetts theatre Sept. 23-Oct. 12 and is a co-production with Theatreworks in Palo Alto, CA. Gabriel Barre directed the national tour of Cinderella as well as the Off-Broadway musical Summer of ‘42 at the Variety Arts Theatre. His other directorial credits include Stars in Your Eyes, Sweeney Todd, Finian’s Rainbow, Houdini, Fanny Hill and Dorian. As an actor, Barre has appeared in the Broadway productions of Starmites, Ain’t Broadway Grand, Rags and Anna Karenina.
