News Wild Party's Barre to Direct World Premiere Memphis Musical Gabriel Barre, who directed Andrew Lippa’s The Wild Party Off Broadway, has signed on to helm the new musical Memphis, which will world-premiere at the North Shore Music Theatre Sept. 23.

Written by I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change’s Joe DiPietro — with music and additional lyrics by David BryanMemphis concerns the story of a white deejay who plays African-American music to his white listeners in the 1940’s, “unknowingly giving birth to the music known as rock-n-roll.” Memphis will play the Massachusetts theatre Sept. 23-Oct. 12 and is a co-production with Theatreworks in Palo Alto, CA. Gabriel Barre directed the national tour of Cinderella as well as the Off-Broadway musical Summer of ‘42 at the Variety Arts Theatre. His other directorial credits include Stars in Your Eyes, Sweeney Todd, Finian’s Rainbow, Houdini, Fanny Hill and Dorian. As an actor, Barre has appeared in the Broadway productions of Starmites, Ain’t Broadway Grand, Rags and Anna Karenina.

The North Shore Music Theatre is located on Dunham Road in Beverly, MA. The theatre’s next production is the Jerry Herman musical Mame, which will play April 19-May 18. Tickets for Mame are available now by calling (978) 232-7200 or by going to the theatre's website, www.nsmt.org.
