Lam, an up-and-coming actress who has recently been seen on the hit ABC television series “Grey’s Anatomy”, takes to the stage to examine the intricacies – both harrowing and hysterical – of the relationship between a mother and daughter of Asian decent in modern America. As the two travel the open road on a cross-country journey, they not only yearn to understand each other, but to reconcile their Chinese-American heritage.

Directed by Gloria Calderón Kellett, Wild Rice is described as “part ‘Thelma & Louise’, part ‘Joy Luck Club’”in press materials.

As the daughter, Lam portrays a tender, yet tough tomboy; a “girl confronting issues of gender and acceptance,” who must appease her personal “collision with Asian stereotypes [of women], from the ‘silent submissive female’, to the ‘exotic, sexy geisha’.”

In addition to appearing on the television shows “Law & Order”, “The Beat”, “100 Centre St.”, and “Cosby”, Lam has written the screenplays for a number of short films, the most recent of which – “Metronome” - is currently in post-production and on track to hit the film festival circuit next year.

Kellet is a founding member of the sketch comedy group And Donkeys Make Five. Her work can currently be seen on the new CBS series "How I Met Your Mother" where she is a staff writer. As well as performing stand-up and improve comedy around the country, Kellet’s recent credits include In Her Shoes at the Hudson Avenue Theatre and Baggage at The Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. Wild Rice will perform Nov. 18 at 8:30 PM, Nov. 19 at 1 PM and Nov. 20 at 8 PM as a selection of Double Helix’s ONE Festival.
