Will Amy Schumer and Laura Benanti Co-Star in Steve Martin’s New Broadway Play? | Playbill

Broadway News Will Amy Schumer and Laura Benanti Co-Star in Steve Martin’s New Broadway Play? The absurd comedy Meteor Shower is aiming for a fall Broadway arrival.

Steve Martin’s new comedy Meteor Shower, which received earlier stagings at the Old Globe and Long Wharf Theatre, is aiming for a November Broadway arrival, according to the New York Post.

Martin is reportedly courting actor-comedian Amy Schumer to make her Broadway debut alongside Tony Award winner Laura Benanti in the absurd comedy about two couples living in Ojai, California, in the early 1990s.

Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, back on Broadway with Hello, Dolly!, will helm the show’s New York premiere. The two previous productions were staged by Gordon Edelstein.

Here’s how the previous productions were described: “Get ready for the unexpected when Norm and his wife Corky invite another couple to their Ojai backyard to watch a meteor shower in the night sky. As the stars come out and the conversation gets rolling, cocktails flow, tempers flare, and sparks fly—literally. Steve Martin’s surprising new comedy takes an offbeat and absurdist look at the comic anxiety lurking just beneath the surface of modern marriage.”

Martin’s last Broadway project was the Tony-nominated musical Bright Star, which he co-wrote with Edie Brickell.
