News Will "California Gurls" Singer Get "Clueless" on Broadway? Pop star Katy Perry, known for her hit songs such as "Teenage Dream," "I Kissed a Girl" and "California Gurls," may be a "California Gurl" on Broadway if a musical adaptation of the Beverly Hills-set film "Clueless" heads to the Great White Way.

According to Vulture.com, "Clueless" writer and director Amy Heckerling is working to bring a musical version of her 1995 comedy film to Broadway, and Perry has expressed interest in playing the lead role of Cher, originated on screen by Alicia Silverstone.

"Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death," Heckerling said. "Maybe Iggy [Azalea] wants to do it!"

The news comes off the heels of the release of Iggy Azalea's music video for the radio hit "Fancy," which riffs off the "Clueless" film.

Heckerling was flattered by the music video and said that a musical version of "Clueless" is in the "really, really, early, early stages."

"Clueless," loosely based on Jane Austen's 1815 novel "Emma," also starred Stacey Dash, Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy. Broadway producer Scott Rudin, who most recently produced the Tony Award-winning revival of A Raisin in the Sun, produced the film "Clueless."
