News Will Matthew James Thomas Share Title Role in Spider-Man With Reeve Carney? London's Daily Mail is reporting that film actor Matthew James Thomas will be the alternate Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Broadway production of Julie Taymor's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

The British-born actor, according to the London paper, will play the role twice a week. Reeve Carney will star in the production six times a week.

An official announcement about Thomas sharing the role with Carney has yet to be made.

The eagerly awaited production will now begin previews Nov. 28 at the Foxwoods Theatre. Opening night has been moved from Dec. 21 to Jan. 11, 2011.

Matthew James Thomas has been seen on screen in "Casualty," "Brittania High," "The Lost Prince," "Afterlife," "Billy Elliot" and more. Spider-Man will mark his Broadway debut.

Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark features a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. The musical had originally been announced to arrive during the 2009 season, but was postponed due to financing.

Producers are Michael Cohl, Jeremiah J. Harris, Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle, Sony Pictures Entertainment, and Land Line Productions, by association with Marvel Entertainment.

The cast also features Next to Normal Tony nominee Jennifer Damiano as Mary Jane Watson and Broadway veteran Patrick Page as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin.
