News Will MTC Stage Rudnick's New Comedy, Regrets Only? Director Christopher Ashley told Playbill.com columnist Harry Haun that come fall he'll be working on Paul Rudnick's new comedy, Regrets Only, for Manhattan Theatre Club.

The comedy updates the sex-strike situation of Lysistrata to embrace the current battle for same-sex marriage. In the play, the gay walker of a wealthy matron discovers her husband has headed to the White House to work on anti-gay-marriage amendments and, in protest, the walker organizes his fellow walkers to "walk out" on the rich ladies they customarily escort.

"It's a very funny play," Ashley told Haun.

The not-for-profit MTC has not announced the plays of its 2006-07 season. The company operates the Biltmore Theatre in Broadway (now home to the audience hit Rabbit Hole, which also got a positive and important notice in the New York Times) and City Center Stage I and II Off-Broadway (respectively home to John Patrick Shanley's Defiance and the incoming Based on a Totally True Story).

Rudnick and Ashley's previous collaborations as playwright and director include Valhalla, Rude Entertainment, The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told, The Naked Truth and Jeffrey.
