The musical, which is set in Chicago during the 1950s, '60s and early '70s, spotlights the relationship between Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and his assistant Bobbie Arnstein, who committed suicide in 1975.

Hef has music and lyrics by Justin S. Fischer and a book by Bethany Christine Elkin and Jamie Donegan. Bethany Christine Elkin will direct and choreograph with associate direction and choreography by Roger Ellis.

The showcase will culminate with performances Aug. 28-30.

Elkin told Playbill.com, "Hef is a new musical based on the life of Hugh Hefner including the creation of the Playboy Empire. The project is currently in development and an industry workshop is slated for August. Casting will be announced at a later date."

Casting breakdowns for the two lead roles follow: "HEF: Caucasian Male. To play 25-35. Charming, but genuine. Driven and extremely intelligent with a scrappy sophistication. Baritone, think John Raitt meets Frank Sinatra. Must move well.

"BOBBIE Caucasian Female. To play 25-35. Hef's witty, fiery, and commanding confidante. A female Robin Williams meets Rosemary Clooney. Not overly shrill or brassy. Warm belt in the style of Eydie Gorme or early 60s Barbra Streisand. Must move well."
