News Wilmington Gets New Summer Theatre, Christened by Lynn Redgrave in Collected Stories, June 1-20 A new professional summer theatre emerges in Wilmington, Delaware on June 1, with stage and screen star Lynn Redgrave headlining.

Donald Margulies' Collected Stories is Contemporary Stage Company's inaugural show of a planned annual summer life at the Baby Grand Theater in Wilmington's Grand Opera House. Redgrave, the Drama Desk winner for Talking Heads and the Oscar nominated star of "Gods and Monsters" and "Georgy Girl" plays opposite Canadian actress Karina Mackenzie in the drama about an older writer and her protégé.

Contemporary Stage Company (CSC) will be the Delaware Valley's only summer professional theatre company, athough Wilmington does have a resident Equity company in Delaware Theatre Company.

Performances of Collected Stories play June 1-20. Kent Paul directs.

CSC's producing artistic director Keith Powell is a Delaware native who is now a full time actor in New York. He sees CSC as a multiculturally-based theatre that will bring plays and artists from around the world to Wilmington during the summers. Through a special arrangement with Canadian Equity, Vancouver actress Mackenzie was invited to appear in the current production.

CSC's mission is "building bridges between the many cultures of our community by producing contemporary classics with multicultural casts, or plays that specifically focus on cultural diversity." The design team includes Michael Schweikardt (sets), Nanzi Adzima (costumes), Matthew McCarthy (lighting), Robert Rees (original score) and Stephen Manocchio (sound).

Artistic director Powell attended St. Mark's High School in Wilmington before getting his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. Producing credits include New York productions of The Mouse That Roared, Enter Pissarro, Indra & Agni Collide and a workshop of Kidding Jane with Ellen McLaughlin and William Charles Mitchell. Powell is the resident director for Equalogy, a professional touring company promoting social change, for which he directed two plays by August Schulenberg, Four Hearts Changing and One Night.  His other directing credits include Dutchman, Quality of Silence, The Visit and Enter Pissarro. As an actor, Powell theatre credits include Romeo & Juliet (The Shakespeare Theatre, Washington, DC ), Kidding Jane (Portland Stage Company), Macbeth (Pittsburgh Public Theater), As Bees In Honey Drown (Hangar Theater, Ithaca, NY), and The French (HB Playwrights Foundation, NYC) among others.
