Following her acclaimed solo work This is Mary Brown, Obie Award winner Winsome Brown is set to return to the New York stage with another one-woman show: Hit the Body Alarm, which is slang for when an inmate in prison is in crisis.

The title of the world-premiere piece reflects the four imprisoned beings that Brown embodies on the stage. Written by the actress, Hit the Body Alarm is co-directed by Brown and Brad Rouse, with a musical score by John Zorn. Performances are scheduled to run September 20-October 2 at the Performing Garage, located at 33 Wooster Street, New York.

According to production notes, Hit the Body Alarm presents four tales of imprisoned souls “on the brink of the abyss.” The characters include Satan after he has been banished from Heaven, Eve before she eats the forbidden fruit and a struggling actress on the brink of suicide.

Brown was inspired by the current political climate and wanted to perform the show during the presidential election. “As the United States stands on the brink of a major election, Hit the Body Alarm explores the irrevocable decisions we make as human individuals, and the permanent consequences they bring,“ she says in a press statement.

The production features sound design by Sean Hagerty and lighting design by Michael O’Connor.
