News Winther, Quinton and Sherman Set for Max Understood at NYMF Casting has been announced for the New York Musical Theatre Festival production of Max Understood, a glimpse into the life of a child with autism, which will play the 45th Street Theatre.

Featuring book and lyrics by Nancy Carlin, with music and lyrics by Michael Rasbury, Max Understood will run Sept. 28-Oct. 7.

David Schweizer (Songs from an Unmade Bed, Troilus and Cressida) directs the musical that is partially based on composer Rasbury's own son, who is autistic. T.O. Sterrett will musical direct with movement by Ryan Kelly.

The cast features Michael Winther (Songs from an Unmade Bed, Mamma Mia!), Drama Desk winner Everett Quinton (Cornbury: The Queen's Governor), Marlon Sherman (Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast), Tricia Burns, Ramiz Monsef (Eurydice), Mary Mossberg (Wonderland) and Ali Stroker (Mrs. Sharp).

Max Understood, according to NYMF, "is an invitation into the life of a 7 year-old boy with autism. As Max embarks on a transformative odyssey beyond the confines of his parents’ apartment, his unique perspective reveals the beauty and mystery of the world around him."

Designing the NYMF run are Caleb Wertenbaker (set design), Clint Ramos (costume design) and Justin Townsend (lighting design). Max Understood was previously developed as part of The Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center’s National Musical Theatre Conference in 2008.
