Classic Arts News With Low Nutcracker Ticket Sales, Boston Ballet Cuts Salaries Boston Ballet has cut the salaries of nearly all its employees, the Boston Globe reports.
This cost-cutting measure was the result of disappointing ticket sales for the company's Nutcracker season. Executive director Valerie Wilder said that the cuts would allow the company to maintain a balanced budget, and that the senior management positions, including her own, had taken the "earliest and biggest hits."

Other employees are taking short unpaid leaves. Wilder said that no one had been laid off.

"What was done was very rapid action to right the ship so we could continue our plan for the year," she said, although she did not specify the amount of the shortfall.

The company's 2004 Nutcracker, a new production, was moved from the 2,600-seat Wang Theatre to the 1,640-seat Colonial Theatre because the Wang Center opted to present the Radio City Christmas Spectacular instead of the traditional Christmas ballet.
