Dan Lauria and Fred Savage, who for years played opposite each other as father and son in the popular television series "The Wonder Years," are reuniting on stage in Wendell & Ben, which begins performances at the Westport Country Playhouse June 29.

The comedy, by W.M. Whitehead and Warren Press, pits a Gentile father (Lauria) against nice Jewish boy (Savage) who is dating his daughter. Wendell & Ben originated with the Playwrights Kitchen Ensemble of Los Angeles, a group founded by Lauria and Richard Zavaglia in 1989. Lauria was looking for the right actor to play the young man when he thought of his former juvenile co-star. The role marks the stage debut for the now-grown Savage, who is the star of the sitcom "Working." Zavaglia directs.

Following its run at Westport, where it will play until July 11, Wendell & Ben will travel to the Cape Playhouse in Dennis, MA (July 13-25). A spokesman at Westport Country Playhouse said that as of yet there were no plans to take the play to New York.
