News Wood and Byrne Join Winslet and Pearce in HBO's "Mildred Pierce" Remake
Recent Spider Man refugee Evan Rachel Wood and Tony winner Brian F. O'Byrne have joined the cast of HBO-TV's five-hour miniseries adaptation of the James M. Cain novel "Mildred Pierce," according to ew.com.

Wood will play Veda, the ungrateful daughter of the title character, a struggling, Great Depression-era waitress who will be played by Oscar winner Kate Winslet. Guy Pearce will also star as Monty Beragon, and Melissa Leo, James Le Gros and Morgan Turner will complete the cast. Filming is set to begin in April for the miniseries, which will be written and directed by Todd Haynes.

The original "Mildred Pierce" was filmed in 1945 in a version that won Joan Crawford an Oscar in the title role and garnered five additional nominations, including supporting acting nods for Ann Blyth (as Veda) and Eve Arden.
