The world premiere of Laura Schellhardt's Shapeshifter, starring Miriam Silverman and Brian McEleney, begins performances at the Trinity Repertory Theatre May 1.

Laura Kepley directs the mysterious play, which officially opens May 6 and will run through May 31 in the Dowling Theater.

Shapeshifter is described as such: "While waiting for the fishermen to return after a terrible storm, young Midge (Silverman) and the old villager Fierson (McEleney) trade tales of mysterious women who come from the water, air and fire. As they spin their tales in the days that follow, the stories somehow seem to mirror Midge’s own family history."

The cast also features Rachael Warren, Anne Scurria, Fred Sullivan, Jr. and Joe Wilson, Jr.

The production team includes Loy Arcenas (set design), William Lane (costume design), Brian J. Lilienthal (lighting design) and John Gromada (sound design).

Schellhardt, who is the playwright in residence at Trinity Rep, has also penned Air Guitar High, Auctioning the Ainsleys, The Apothecary's Daughter, The K of D, Courting Vampires, Shapeshifter, Inheritance and Je Ne Sais Quoi.
