News World Premiere of The Loves of Mr. Lincoln, Part of Gayfest NYC, Begins June 6 Gayfest NYC's Fifth Festival of Plays concludes with the world premiere of David Brendan Hopes' The Loves of Mr. Lincoln, which begins performances June 6 prior to an official opening June 7.

Directed by Sidney J. Burgoyne, the cast includes Don Burroughs, Leah Curney, Tyrone Davis, Jr., Steven Hauck and Stacey Todd Holt.

"Partially based on historic letters between Abraham Lincoln and his best friend, Joshua Speed, The Loves of Mr. Lincoln is the author's interpretation of the lives they lived, together and apart," press notes state. "It is a theatrical depiction of our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln, who loved his wife, his children, the Union, the United States of America and Joshua Speed." 

The creative team includes Michael Hotopp (set), Carrie Robbins (costumes), John Eckert (lighting) and Paul Huntley (hair and wigs). The production stage manager is Aislinn Curry.

Gayfest NYC is a four-week event of theatre works spotlighting gay issues that runs through June 16 at the Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex. The festival includes two fully staged productions, talkbacks with the authors of the plays and appearances by members of the LGBT community. Along with The Loves of Mr. Lincoln, the festival features Moonlight and Love Songs by Scott C. Sickles and Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde by Moisés Kaufman

Gayfest NYC Inc. is the country's premier producer of new LGBT-themed plays. All proceeds from Gayfest NYC benefit the Harvey Milk High School.
