McBride began his career in Los Angeles, where he reported on the music business for a variety of West Coast trade publications. After establishing SongTalk as a leading songwriter's newspaper, he started his own publication, Songwriter's Weekly. He returned to freelance work in 1994, working through his own agency, Guerrilla Media.

McBride and his wife, Cia Toscanini (ASCAP's Director of Concert Music Membership), live in Bronxville, NY. They have two sons, Wyatt and Liam.

McBride joins Playbill On-Line editors Robert Simonson and David Lefkowitz and staff writers Kenneth Jones and Christine Ehren.
