News WWII Is a Real Drag for Army Rejects Subbing for Stars in Andrews Brothers, at Milwaukee Rep The Andrews Brothers, a new musical comedy featuring new songs and classics of the World War II era, premieres Nov. 11 at Milwaukee Repertory Theatre's Stackner Cabaret.

In the show written and directed by Rep favorite Roger Bean, three brothers transform into their famous female counterparts (the Andrews Sisters), singing original songs such as "Rosie the Riveter" as well as classics like "Slow Boat to China," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" and "Ac-Cent-Tchu-Ate the Positive."

Performances continue to Jan. 6, 2006.

"The Andrews Brothers want to support their country during World War II by enlisting in the Army, but due to flat feet, poor vision and asthma, they aren't accepted," according to Milwaukee Rep notes. "Instead, they become stage technicians for the USO. The three brothers, Max, Lawrence, and Patrick, are in for a surprise — and the chance of a lifetime — when the famous Andrews Sisters are quarantined before one of their USO shows. With the help of Peggy Jones, the star who is scheduled to perform opposite of The Andrews Sisters, the three brothers take the stage and put on a hilarious performance, mimicking what they've only seen from backstage."

Bean said in notes, "Here we create the atmosphere of a rag-tag USO team — a very real organization with an important and impressive history; sing songs familiar to many in the audience; and try to live up to the memory of a legendary group that inspired the creation of The Andrews Brothers."

Creator Roger Bean also wrote and directed last season's Stackner Cabaret hit, Lana Mae's Honky-Tonk Laundry. He also wrote and directed Winter Wonderettes, Beach Blanket Bash!, Route 66, The Marvelous Wonderettes, That's Amore, Don't Touch That Dial and more. Bean lives in California and serves as the executive director of Steele Springs Productions, a theatrical licensing house. The Andrews Brothers cast includes Ben Cherry, Adam Estes and Michael Jenkinson, plus Melinda Pfundstein.

The production team includes Jon Newton (musical arranger), Vicki R. Davis (set designer), Alex Tecoma (costume designer), Jason J. Fassl (lighting designer), Darci Brown Wutz (choreographer) and Kathi Karol Koenig (stage manager).
